SAFETRAC GPS 520 – Fit and proper program now available

The SAFETRAC GPS 520 – Fit and Proper Program is based on APRA’s Guidelines for GPS 520 and is designed to help organisations understand their commitments with regard to GPS 520.

It sets out the minimum requirements for general insurers and authorised non-operating holding companies (NOHCs) in determining the fitness and propriety of individuals to hold positions of responsibility. Persons who are responsible for the management of these institutions must have the appropriate skills, experience and knowledge and must act honestly and with integrity.

Regulated institutions need to ensure that their responsible officers are fit and proper to hold their positions.

The SAFETRAC GPS 520 – Fit and Proper product is composed of 2 sections:

  • An introduction to the course which explains how the course is structured, what it is based on, and the key requirements of GPS 520.
  • GPS 520 – this section explains what a Fit and Proper policy should contain, who a responsible person can be, the criteria that is used to determine if a person is fit and proper, the legal considerations and the powers that APRA hold under the Insurance Act 1973.
